The coherent sequence of linear frequency-modulated pulses is one of the most widespread radar signals. This signal has good range and Doppler resolution, but one of its drawbacks is the high level of autocorrelation function side lobes. In this paper we present the signal that is constructed from coherent packages of pulses. Then every package is phase modulated by appropriate complementary sequence. Complementary phase- coding for the different pulses in the train yields zero ACF side lobes around the main lobe area ( – pulse duration and is the coded pulses package length), the range resolution is significantly simplified. Also a helpful property is reduced level of recurrent lobes from other packages. But these benefits are quickly lost, when the target return has nonzero Doppler. In order to detect the target return it is required to use several filters at the receiver each matched to the different target Doppler or FFT-based filtering methods. Another approach is to use the combination of some complementary code with pulse frequency modulation. In our examples we used two types of binary overlay coding in combination with linear and nonlinear frequency modulation. These were the orthonormal codes of Hadamar and PONS construction. The use of the code based on PONS construction with intrapulse nonlinear frequency modulation resulted in lower ACF side lobes in the rest of nonzero autocorrelation area near the main lobe peak \u00a0and lower peaks of ambiguity function\u00a0 for nonzero Doppler. A significant practical advantage of the new complementary phase-coded signal is improved Doppler tolerance, which allows to simplify receiver complexity.
