short-wave infrared (SWIR) systems have serious advantages and can be applied for inspection, quality control of products, surveillance, sorting, etc. In this paper, we propose to perform an automated optical system design of a SWIR-lens with the help of one of modern global optimization algorithms, namely the adaptive Cauchy differential evolution method. At the first stage, a designer should enter the input data, indicate variable parameters, set necessary restrictions, and generate the desired merit function. Then, the global optimization algorithm is launched. The design process itself is fulfilled completely automatically, and there is no need for active participation of the designer. By using the developed specialized software, we performed an experimental validation of this approach on an example of designing a SWIR-lens similar to commercially available one. The time interval required for the design process does not exceed several hours for an optical system having the total number of unknown parameters about 50. The developed optical system of the SWIR-lens has the effective focal length 50 mm, the angular field of view 23\u00b0, and F-number 1.4. It is intended to be used in the spectral range 0.9 to 1.7 \u00b5m with the main wavelength 1.3 \u00b5m. The maximum polychromatic RMS spot radius is smaller than 16 \u00b5m over the full field. The relative distortion does not exceed 0.25%. The polychromatic MTF values at the spatial frequency 40 lines\/mm are higher than 0.4 across the full field in both the meridional and sagittal cross-sections.
