The purpose of this article is to justify the benefits of using a spectral pyrometer to control the wear of a contact wire of a railway network. The main advantages of the proposed method are the fact that monitoring results do not depend on such measurement characteristics as radiance, distance from the object to the instrument and the state of the atmosphere. The article presents the results of calculating the output signal of the pyrometer for typical output parameters when monitoring the condition of the contact wire. Also, the graph of the dependence of the coefficient of the spectral relation on the temperature of the contact wire is given. We introduce the concept of the coefficient of the spectral correlation of the CSC. CSC during monitoring of the condition of the contact wire of the railway transport depends on the temperature of the overheating of the wire due to the wear of the cross-section. After analysing the theoretical correlations for the value of the coefficient of the spectral ratio, we can conclude that the value of CSC does not depend on such factors as the distance between the wire and the pyrometer, the coefficient of the radiating ability of the contact wire, the transmission coefficient of the optical system of the pyrometer and the atmosphere.
