Rural areas are traditionally the priority “objects” of state regulation, which require additional attention in the forms of financial and budgetary, property, information and promotional and other support. To organize effective state regulation of rural development at the national level, an appropriate concept and strategy should be developed, at the regional level – a program of action, and at the local level \u2013 a system of measures to implement them with systematic feedback and active influence of civil society. The urgency of the topic is to solve the problems of monofunctionality of rural areas, the need to promote the diversification of entrepreneurial activity in rural areas through the development of rural green tourism. Introducing multifunctionality of the economy in the regions in determining the agro-specialization of the territory and improving the anthropogenic load on the environment. Determining the directions of development of the tourist economy through associations and the formation of regional tourist destinations.
\nThe paper examines the rural area as a basis for the formation of a local tourism economy with the definition of green tourism. The priorities of business regulation by determining the agro-specialization of the territory and the introduction of multifunctionality of the economy in the regions are revealed. The importance of the field of green tourism for the development of rural areas in the context of the specifics of the formation of economic relations, doing business and self-employment given the resource potential of the territories. The author’s definition of types of economic activity in the structure of the economy of rural areas is offered and the place of green tourism among them is allocated. According to the results of the research, the urgency of the transformation of tourist destinations with the formation of the local tourist economy and the transition to multifunctionality was determined.
