The role of the agricultural sector of Ukraine in the general system of sustainable development of the state is defined. It is noted that the modern theory of state regulation of the economy demonstrates the need for a comprehensive approach to the choice of means and methods of influencing the subjects of economic relations. Such a mechanism should be implemented systematically and based on long-term goals and tactical objectives of sustainable development. The main management functions are: planning, regulation, organization, forecasting and control. The regulatory function is an important component of the public administration system. It is noted that the views of theorists on the category of “regulation” differ, but do not contradict each other and may clarify each other. The purpose of state regulation of the economy is to create such an economic system that would focus on choosing the most efficient options for using existing factors of production and ensuring favourable socio-economic living conditions. Methods of state regulation are classified. It is noted that the constant development of various economic processes requires increased attention to ensure the effectiveness of the process of state regulation of sustainable development of the agricultural sector of the regions of Ukraine in order to fulfil the strategic objectives. It is emphasized that in order to implement the key function of regulating the sustainable development of the agricultural sector of the regions of Ukraine, the state must exert influence on a certain area and at the same time prevent the rupture of relations within the market mechanism. The main elements of the system of state regulation are defined (goals, subjects, objects, forms, methods, tools and results of regulation). It is emphasized that state regulation in modern conditions should be not only aimed at achieving the goals of national agricultural policy, but also systematically.
