The purpose of the article is to deepen and develop the theoretical foundations of ensuring the social security of the national economy. Social security is a component of the security of the national economy, its basis is the protection of the vital interests of the individual, society and the state from external and internal threats. Ensuring social security is implemented through the development and implementation of state policy aimed at improving the level and quality of life in the country. The article presents the stages of the formation of normative legal support for social security of Ukraine. The approaches to defining the essence of the concept of “social security” are highlighted: administrative, static, dynamic, reproductive, institutional, complex, systemic, quantitative. The scientific foundations for determining the main trends in scientific research in the field of social security have been deepened. The applied approach differs from the existing ones by the systemic combination of trend and bibliometric analysis, which were carried out using the Google Trends service and VOSviewer v.1.6.10. The use of the specified tools in scientific research made it possible to identify the main stages in the evolution of scientific and public interest in the problem of ensuring social security. According to the results of bibliometric and trend analysis, it was revealed that research on social security issues occupies a prominent place in the system of economic research, scientific and user interest in which has been especially intensified over the past five years, and in 2020 there is a surge of interest in the problem and the convergence of trends in their popularity in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic. At the present stage of development of economic relations, one of the main priorities for ensuring social security in the countries of the world is precisely the formation of a system of social protection, increasing the level and quality of life of the population, as well as balancing the priorities of economic development with issues of social justice. Regularities are revealed in the following dimensions: evolutionary: stages of development of scientific and public interest in the problem of social security are determined; geographical: analysis of research on the problem of ensuring social security made it possible to identify leading countries in terms of publication activity; semantic: during the study, the most relevant areas of social security were identified.
