Economic systems undergo constant transformations during adaptation to changes in the external environment and new tasks of strategic development of enterprises. The modernization potential forms the company’s internal reserves and accumulates economic opportunities for advanced innovation and competitiveness. Infrastructure enterprises in the transition to new conditions
\nof neo-industrial industrial development and transformations provoked by technological restructuring of the economic systems of regions, countries and world corporations must have information and methodology to ensure efficiency and competitiveness in the future. These tasks are solved with the help of tools for assessing the available opportunities and resources, diagnosing the effectiveness of the development of the modernization potential of infrastructure enterprises. The essence of the concept of “modernization” is investigated in the article. The authors consider approaches to the interpretation of enterprise modernization. The article examines the essence and methodological support for assessing the modernization potential of economic systems. The analysis of the theoretical basis showed the problem of insufficient research on the management and evaluation of the modernization potential of the enterprise. The considered methods of analysis of the level of depth, development and integration of the elements of modernization potential open opportunities for further scientific research. To assess the modernization potential of infrastructure enterprises, it is necessary to outline the main conditions and provisions: the number of indicators should be limited and related to the characteristics of infrastructure enterprises: indicators should take into account the characteristics of infrastructure services; the system of indicators must provide a comprehensive description of the economic system of the enterprise and take into account the innovative effects; the set of indicators must be flexible; the use of economic and mathematical tools will allow to integrate indicators into a single system and will ask for analysis; the information base must be accessible, reliable, relevant; reflect the goals of innovative development; evaluation criteria should be adapted to the impact of the external
\nenvironment of the enterprise.<\/p>\n
