The purpose of the article is to study the theoretical aspects of economic development, its essence, constituent elements and functional features, as well as to substantiate the process of formation of economic development in modern conditions. The article proposes to consider, under economic development, a dynamic and continuous process in time, associated with the transition of one state of the economy to another, characterized by qualitative and quantitative changes in economic processes, and aimed at
\nensuring the economic efficiency of the country as a whole. The process of formation of economic development is substantiated. In particular, the main elements of economic development are: technology and technology; scientific research; natural resources; human capital; financial capital; culture and ideology. Functional features include: quantitative and qualitative changes, unpredictability, preservation of continuity of economic phenomena and processes, irreversibility of economic processes, alternative, adaptation to the environment, purposefulness and regularity. It has been established that factors such as increase in physical volume of capital, technological progress, established mechanism of legislative and tax base, increase in the number of employed, improvement of distribution of resources, stability of the financial system, etc. can positively influence the formation of the economic system of the country. Factors of negative impact on economic development are natural and man-made disasters, military-political instability, environmental disasters, natural and climatic conditions, scarcity of natural resources, etc.<\/p>\n
