The article contains information about the need to create a classification of virtual communities as one of the means of communication. An overview of the first studies of the term “virtual community”, where the authors identified the importance of such information technology for society. The latest research conducted by scientists in the field of virtual communities is also analyzed.
\nThe need to create a tool for classifying virtual communities, due to the congestion of the Internet with low-quality sources of information, has been identified. Clogging up virtual communities that can be useful in the activities of any structure online. According to the analysis, the classification of virtual communities was formulated, considering their areas and technologies of creation: the degree of community development, the purpose of the community, the subject of the community, the geographical location of participants, the form and language of community use. A formula for estimating the indicator of the development of the virtual community and the quantitative characteristics that precede it is generated. The effectiveness of the presented method is to study the activities of community members through their reactions to published information. The method of assessing the relevance of the virtual community to the topic, which is determined by a sound formula, is presented. The method allows to analyze the subject matter of publications and activities of community members. Also, using Unified Modeling Language tools, a diagram of the structure, relationships between important components in the virtual community: client, administrator, participant, content, and software was created. The definition of the influence of these subjects and objects on the activity of the community is given. The opinion on the importance of studying all the necessary indicators to work with them is substantiated.
