\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0The article reveals domestic and foreign approaches to defining the definition of “digitalization”. The author’s definition of the concept is given – “digitalization – a definition characterized by transformational changes aimed at the symbiosis of digitization and software.” This category is studied in terms of domestic and world researchers over time. It is established that the interest in digitalization is due to competitive advantages, through providing additional value of goods through quality service, high level of communication, improving the company’s image, reducing prices through process automation and digitization of business processes, transparency of internal and external processes, increasing customer loyalty to the company. An assessment of the level of digitalization of the economy and society as a whole in different countries with the initial data of the Global Digital Competitiveness Rating for 2015-2020. The comparative assessment of countries in this ranking was based on the ability to perceive and effectively use digital technologies as a means of transforming regulatory practices, business models and society as a whole. The place of Ukraine among the digitalized space is singled out. The directions of innovative development of enterprises in the conditions of digitalization, in particular digital-environment, digital-management, digital-culture and digital-strategy are determined. The level of digitalization of industrial enterprises is analyzed and the prospects of their development are determined.
