\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0As world experience shows, small business can be a generator of many innovations, including large enough technologies. The innovative function of small business in particular has intensified in today’s digital economy, where it has more opportunities to create and promote innovation, including information technology (IT). Small businesses (small businesses) have proven that they can play an important and specific role in the national innovation system because they have natural advantages. Increasing the innovative activity of small businesses is necessary in Ukraine, especially in the IT sector, which is becoming increasingly important in terms of contributing to economic growth.
\nThe organization, provision and implementation of innovative activities by small enterprises are specific, compared to large and even medium-sized enterprises. Therefore, for the development of small innovative entrepreneurship it is necessary to determine the features of innovative activity of small enterprises.
\nThe organization, provision and implementation of innovative activities by small enterprises have natural features. The article substantiates the increasing importance of innovative entrepreneurship, in particular small. The peculiarities of the small business sector are determined. The criteria for recognizing small enterprises as innovative are determined, new features of their classification are proposed and the types of enterprises are determined. The “strong” and “weak” properties of small enterprises in the field of innovation in comparison with large companies are substantiated. Peculiarities of innovative activity of small enterprises in the following areas are determined: specifics of management; organization of innovation activity; cooperation with partners (large, medium and small enterprises, universities); formation of the base of financial resources; formation of an innovative business model; commercialization of innovations. It is noted that the scale, intensity and effectiveness of innovation activities of small enterprises critically depend on external conditions, which determines the great importance of public policy. The main determinants of the development of innovative activity of small enterprises are formulated, covering the macro-, meso- and micro-level.
