\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0The article examines the essence and analyzes the convergence of institutional foundations of social policy in the European Union and in Ukraine. The modern world is built in such a way that each individual state cannot be included in the existing socio-economic process without awareness of itself and its place in the process of globalization. Globalization serves as a new stage in the development of human civilization. In such conditions, the interdependence and interaction of the states of the world becomes increasingly important. Processes of mutual approximation, which are characterized by the mutual influence and relationship between the objects of convergence is defined by the term “convergence” (from the Latin convergo – “converge”). The term itself is used in many social sciences, humanities and technical sciences, and so on. Effective convergence of the institutional foundations of social policy in the European Union and in Ukraine is an imperative prerequisite for bringing the parameters of social development of a less developed country, such as Ukraine, to those of more developed countries, such as most European Union countries. The experience of socio-economic convergence and its practical use to improve social policy in Ukraine proves the overwhelming effectiveness of such a mechanism and is useful for our country in the implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU. Further scientific research should be carried out in the direction of finding ways to increase the effectiveness of the convergence of the institutional foundations of social policy in the EU and in Ukraine, based on the best practices of developed countries.
